Into the Blue: Summer Color Trends Are Feeling The Blues

Shades of blue were all the rage last winter. And, summer color trends are still feeling the blues. Our options are just more plentiful now, from sorbet shades of blues to electric blues. I personally favor deep hues, so cobalt is always a must-have. When I saw this dress on hm.com, it was a no-brainer.

I wore this ensemble to attend a launch party at a local vineyard in my area recently. It was just the breezy, one-piece wonder I needed for the occasion. I tossed it on after work and was ready in an instant.

The blue color was the perfect base to build a color-blocked combination when paired with my Jacquemus Le Chiquito Long bag in orange.

Remember when I broke my toe a few months ago? Well, it healed with a complication, and I’ve since had to have surgery. The saga never ends, y’all. Be careful on steps! As I recover, my shoe choices are limited to soft sneakers only. I’m at the stage of fully embracing this limitation as a style challenge. What else can I do, right? The Nike Daybreak sneakers have been my perfectly comfortable shoe. I’ve since purchased them in black/white too.

How To Look Cute While Running Errands

My fail-proof outfit for running errands is always anchored by joggers and sneakers. While I rely on these casual, sporty style staples, I like to make sure I create outfits I love. So, I style every errand outfit like I would style any other type of outfit. I add color, some structure, and keep it moving.

I partnered with the Saint Louis Galleria to highlight my experience shopping spring styles there. Check out my Instagram post here. I had a lot of ground to cover, and I’m still recovering from a broken big toe. So, a casual and comfy outfit was necessary.

This outfit started with the jogger pants and the sneakers. I wanted to dress it up a bit, and my go-to for doing that is always a sharp but fun blazer. This fuchsia blazer, an older style from Milly that I bought in Nordstrom, provided the perfect complementary color to the purple joggers. I layered the blazer over a light pink t-shirt, which created so much harmony with the blazer.

My hands-free, cross-body camera bag in white was the perfect finishing touch because it blended in without adding more color and overwhelming the colorblocked outfit.

That’s my formula. And, this is my uniform for work these days and for running errands. It works because it meets the needs of life right now.

Want to know another thing? The sweatpants are only $15 and the t-shirt is $5. You truly don’t have to spend a lot to look chic and feel amazing.

A Brilliant Blue Color Combination To Try This Spring

Greetings, fellow lovers of bright colors. One of the best ways to get more mileage out of our colorful wardrobes is to mix and match. Color blocking is our friend! I was inspired to try this blue color combination–cobalt and copper–while watching an episode of Stylish with Jenna Lyons on HBO Max. One of the characters on the show presented an eye-catching outfit that paired cobalt with brown. When I saw it, I immediately knew that I wanted to try a version of it. I own a few copper pieces, like the Theory coat I’m caping today. Copper pairs so beautifully with cobalt. Read on for all the details.

Kendra Scott necklace | Kendra Scott studs | Kendra Scott ring and ring

My cobalt blazer is from Zara. I’m so hooked on Zara’s double-breasted blazers with the metal buttons (see me wear one in navy here and here). They look so expensive and fit impeccably well once you find your size. I buy the medium for a relaxed yet structured fit. The prices range from $89.90 (like this one) to $149.00. They’re worth every penny.

To create the color combination, I wore the cobalt blazer over white and caped a copper coat over the blazer. This coat is one of my favorite buys in 2020. I wear it with so much (see here, here, here, and here). It retailed originally for $795 and is now marked down by 70%! Such a steal. For reference, I’m wearing the coat in a size medium.

5 Zoom Backgrounds For Amazing Work From Home Settings

2020 switched things up on us. Many of us have found ourselves working from home. Some of us are finding out that this work-from-home life might be permanent. Take the stress out of worrying about how your home looks by adopting one of these easy tricks to set up perfect zoom backgrounds. As an added bonus, everything is affordable and requires zero skills to setup.

5 Easy-To-Create Zoom Backgrounds
1. Artsy wall backdrop

I’m no DIY-er, and painting is not my forte. So, you better believe this backdrop doesn’t require any of these skills. Get this. The striking design on my wall is achieved by decals. I always choose decals when I want a statement wall because they’re easy to apply, and more importantly, they’re easy to remove. We deserve the right to change things often.

2. Room Rater Envy

Obsessed with Room Rater reviews on Twitter? It’s super easy and affordable to create a bookcase backsplash of your own. Well, the books are on you. But, the white bookcases, all from Ikea, make it easy to customize to your needs. You have the option to buy as many shelves as you want and place them where you need them. I sacrificed a window to create this continuous flow of books, and it was totally worth it.

3. Corner office

Space tight? No worries! Even a corner can be spruced up. I relied on a combination of wall decals and favorite artifacts to design this backdrop. My bamboo window coverings totally fit the vibe as well.

4. Happy Hour Spot

Zoom happy hours are actually a thing now. Why not let your backdrop function for the event as well. I decorated my bar cart to serve as a backdrop. And, of course, all the essentials for the event will be handy.

5. Fashion Link-ups

Fashion is a big part of my life. When I’m doing fashion-related zooms, I stream from the cute and tidy parts of my closet room. In this corner, I replaced the doors from the actual tiny closet and covered the opening with drapes. Next to that, my shoes and bags are organized on a Billy bookcase.
