Over the years, I’ve grown more and more discriminating when purchasing prints. As much as I love a bold and unique print, I recognize that prints can look dated very quickly. And, I want to always have a wardrobe filled with pieces I want to wear for a long time. Pieces that are timeless. Pieces that are versatile.
I purchased this Aqua dress on sale in Bloomingdale’s last year. I’ve only worn it once (see how here). Since then, I have debated whether I should keep it. A year later, I still have it, though, because its optic, black and white print still looks hip and is actually easy to mix and match. Black and white prints are particularly easy to mix. Look how effortlessly this vibrant african print head wrap worn as a scarf blends with the dress.

The sandals I’m wearing, the J.Crew buckled mid-heel sandals, were an impulse buy. My homegirl Hayet purchased these Italian-made sandals in pink sand and has been encouraging me to get a pair since. When I spotted a black pair in-store on a recent trip to NYC, then, I just had to try them on. The leather feels like butter. The crisscrossed ankle strap looks sophisticated. The stacked heel is comfy. They fit perfectly (I purchased my usual size 8, but some have sized up a half size to avoid their heels hanging too closely to the back of the sandal). And, they’re on sale. Meant for me, right?
My hair is in a flat-twist updo. The style had individual twists on the top that I loosed out to create volume. In the St. Louis area? I had my hair twisted at Hair Suites in the Clayton area.

My exploration of St. Louis’ architectural history continues with this beautiful building. The building was originally a fire station dating back as early as the 1890s (source). You’ve actually seen another side of the same building in this post. |
