Tube tops were trending last summer. As a super fan of the style, I went a little overboard buying them. They’re so affordable, and they served me well (see here and here). I’m not quite ready to pack away the style just because it’s fall. So, I’m finding ways to incorporate them in my outfits. You’ve seen me layer tube tops under jackets for autumn (like this). In today’s post, I’m tube top layering over my shirt for a fun styling option.
What I’m wearing:
Shirt (similar, similar) | Tube top | Pants | Bag | Mules (similar, similar, want these)
I’ve been experimenting with tube top layering as a styling approach, and a couple tricks help me nail the look every time. I’ve found that a textured tube top works best. This particular blue top is smocked, so it adds a striking textural element when worn over a white top.
I’ve also found that a slightly oversized shirt works better as a base than a fitted shirt. The more relaxed shirt creates a beautiful fit and flare silhouette when paired with the tube top.
Once I’ve figured out the top combination, I’ve got options when deciding on a bottom. In today’s look, I’m wearing my new favorite black pants from J.Crew Factory. Their slim cropped fit complements the tops well. The tops would look equally amazing, though, with a pencil skirt, wide leg pants, leggings, and more.
What’s your favorite layering technique for fall?
