Travel Chic: Five-Day Business/Pleasure Trip to NYC

This week, I have to be in New York City for a meeting on Thursday.  So, I am going to fly to NYC on Wednesday, go to my meeting on Thursday, and then hang out for a few days.

I travel lightly.  I try my best to only take things I need and will use.  So, before packing, I make serious plans about what I will carry.  I am taking a pilot case on this trip.  Here’s what I am packing in that bag.

Wednesday: Travel Day

Skirt—Old Navy
Camisole—Old Navy
Jacket—Gap Outlet
Scarf—The Limited
Shoes—Coach via Marshalls

Thursday: Meetings

I decided on a casual chic work look for meetings.

Top—Loft
Pants—Loft
Cardigan—Gap
Belt—Dooney & Bourke via Apres Vous
Shoes—Coach via Marshalls

Thursday Night: Zumba Master Class

You all know that I am hooked on some Zumba, so traveling was not going to interrupt my workout schedule.  So, I found a class to attend while out of town.  And, it is a 2-hour master class too.  I am so excited!

Top—Champion via Target
Sports bra—Gap
Pants—Gap
Shoes—Ryka via ShoeBuy

Friday:

I am packing several versatile dresses that are chic enough to work for many occasions, from a day of shopping to dinner.

Dress—BCBG via BCBG Outlet
Shoes—Kanna via Marshalls

Friday Night (Option)

Dress—Ann Taylor
Shoes—Kanna via Marshalls

Saturday:

Saturday Night (Option)

Shoes—Kanna via Marshalls

Sunday: Brunch and Airport Travel

I will take an extra top that can be mixed with either the black cropped pants or black maxi skirt to return to Lexington.

Top—Gap
Pants—Loft
Jacket—Gap
Shoes—Coach via Marshalls

Bags for the trip

My Linea Pelle small perry tote will be my everyday bag.  A purple Michael Kors clutch will hold down the evening affairs.

Shoes for the Trip

I will be back with reports on the bargain shopping scene here, particularly the varied off-price retailers .  Of course, it is a great weekend for finding steals with all the newly announced sales (from 40-70% off sale items) at our favorite stores (BR, Loft, Gap, The Limited, and so on).

If you're only taking a pilot case, how are you going to do some killer shopping in the Big Apple?! 🙂

I have found the most splended NYC Shopping resource! It's called City Maps and it is a virtual map of the city. It show every store and shop in NYC and information about them, even how much it cost to park on the street while you shop! I am in love!

This is such a great post and I love your selections and thought process. I am quite similar and try to repeat items as much as possible when I travel so I can keep it light, and as a result, I totally have to do a fashion show before I pack. LOL so glad to know I'm not the only one who is a total planner 🙂

@Sile Convery: Ha! Thanks. My case was a tad fuller than I would've liked. I always forget, too, that I will buy and wear new things in NYC.

@Jill: Right! Somehow I worked it out. I bought a few dresses, a blazer, and some scarves, which were easy to squeeze into the bag. If I had bought shoes, I would've have encountered space problems. I knew I was on a mission to buy dresses though.

@Kish: Thanks! I had a great time and I'm now back with lots of shopping reports 🙂 That AT dress is really gorgeous. AT knew it too. The dress had sold out immediately when it was first introduced last year and they brought it back later in the year. This year, AT introduced another style with the same print.

@Jane Squared: Yup. Can't miss Zumba. The master class was amazing too. Two hours of nonstop, high impact Zumba. I felt it when walking up stairs the following day. Lol.

    Thanks for coming by @Lily!

Right @Annie! Stripes can make anything look instantly chic. The selections worked really well in the city.

@Lori: You so should! I want another one. I am really hoping that the ON skirt withstands wear because ON knits don't usually have a long lifespan.

@Michelle: You are not alone! I am glad to know that someone else does this because my friends ridicule me for my meticulous strategy. Lol!

@Shasie: Zumba is da bomb, right! I can't get enough. You would've loved the 2 hour master class!

    Thanks @Catherine Au Jong!
