Effortless transformation. An essential shift dress in a standout brown and white “tribal” print equals many possibilities. Today’s post features a couple looks with the same shift. First, the dress is belted with a brown woven leather belt creating a classic form-fitting look. In the second outfit, a purple cardigan performs double duty—adding bold color and toning down the dress’ print. Patent croc pumps complete both outfits.

Belt—MICHAEL Michael Kors via T.J. Maxx
Cardigan—Old Navy
Shoes—Tahari via Marshalls
That’s why I love cardigans. They can do a lot for an outfit (well make it uglier even lol, which is not the case.
Looking great as ever dear.

I think this is one of my fav outfits so far and I love how you’ve worked in a croc pump to keep the tribal print…still tribal. The print on this dress is so versatile.
The brown and purple are really nice together.
I love the print on this dress…and the cardigan and the belt…and the pearls. Yeah, pretty much everything. LOL!
i love anything “tribal” even if the word makes me uncomfortable. that dress is beautiful and i love how you paired it with a purple cardigan and fantastic belt.
I love the print of on that dress! Ethnic patterns are so pretty. The fuschia sweater brings the print out even more.
I love cardigans too. Wow, everything you put together looks awesome. Wish I had your talent.
oh it looks great with the purple and as it is!!! who doesn't love black & white?!?! u look great!!!
you look like you’re fit to be the first lady!
I like it both ways! That shade of pink/fuchsia with brown is brilliant.
That’s a lovely printed dress 🙂
xo
I love the belted look, but I have a question. I have trouble with the belts sliding down. For example, I love love your older post of the red smocked empire waist dress where you added pearls and belt.
When I do that the belt slides, even if it is tight enough. Also when I try to belt as in this photo, because I am very curvy, the belt doesn’t fit correctly in the back. Any suggestions?
oh yeah. love the second look especially.
love how you transformed the look so easily. Very beautiful
Love the purple =)
very savvy. i have been seeing lots belt over open cardigan looks.
love the blazer added! adds a little pizazz…

Ahh another lover of patterns! 😀 This outfit is adorable on you. I’m very much needing to wear a belted cardigan tomorrow now lol 🙂
Lovely colors.
I appreciate all the comments!
Julianne: That’s a great question. I hated belts for a long time because of that very movement. Check out this style bakery post on belts for us curvy women.

It does not directly address the movement, but I think the right size and position would help keep a belt snug.
