Looking Back, Looking Forward

Undercover. You may remember this strapless dress with its tropical floral print, shirred sweetheart neckline, and pleated skirt. It’s one of my favorite low-budget purchases of the summer. To continue to spread the flower power right through early fall, I went in search of the perfect companion for the dress, a chic cardigan.

None of the above cardigans are just right. The Y-front neckline with faux pearl buttons on the first two cardigans is ideal, but the colors, not so ideal. While the white of the third cardigan looks promising, I am more fond of the Y-neckline of the first two.

So, back to the drawing board. Perhaps this one? It combines the best features of the sweaters above with its Y-neckline and great off-white (powdered milk) color.

I like the white with the Y neckline cardigan, but I also like the #2 one. It’s purple, isn’t it?

    psyche,

How about brown? Or maybe a green (fern or brighter olive) shade? This will carry it in to fall nicely.

I like the white cardigan with the Y neck line. You can’t go wrong with that one. You could also go with a brighter color.

I like the white. Sometimes finding the right cardigan can be so stressful- haha. I also really love the bag- so cute!

It’s a tough-one because you’ve gotta work with the neckline of the dress. What about a wrap? But i like the white cardi.

Maybe a shorter length button up sweater with the bottom of it just at your waist. Button two or three lower ones. Maybe a light, soft cashmere.

This is a great way to continue to use summer dresses into fall. Target is selling dress cardigans in several colors to go with dresses and a thin belt. Lucky Mag highlighted this style in their September issue, even though women have been doing that for a while now. I like all the colors of the sweaters you choose. Those should work out great!

Love the “winter floral” look. Could you try layering an actual sweater on top (not a cardigan)? Maybe even something like the one you wore on Thurs. August 28th (yellow short sleeve turtleneck sweater…although not sure that color would work). Anyways, just an idea!

    I adoooooooore this dress!

I’m thinking it might look best with a bright color sweater (our local Target had some on sale recently) — a color picked up from the dress itself, perhaps?

    Thanks for all the suggestions!!

I am literally going to try them all.

I also have this dress. Beautiful print, beautiful fit, so naturally the zipper ripped out after the second wear. Haven’t found time to replace it, but now I feel inspired =P
