The Marimekko for Target collection launched a couple weekends ago on April 17th, and it’s filled with over 200 pieces in stunning prints, those unique patterns that Marimekko is known for. I initially decided not to shop the collection because I didn’t need anything, and you all know I go cuckoo for prints. I especially love the Appelsiini print and the Okariino print.
On a random trip to Target last week, I got curious and tried on the shorts in my favorite Appelsiini print. The shorts are only $19.99, but fit well and feel luxurious. They have a pull-on style and pockets. Pockets, y’all! When I first saw the shorts on the racks, they looked so tiny that I thought they were for girls. I took a large and an extra large to the fitting room, but apparently the shorts only look deceivingly small and are actually true-to-size. They seem to be cut to accommodate curves too. For reference, I’m wearing a size small.
Top: Kate Spade Saturday (love this Anthropologie top)
Shorts: Marimekko for Target (matching top)
Clutch: Loeffler Randall (on sale)
Shoes: J.Crew (old, similar, similar)
Earrings: House of Harlow (on sale)
Necklace: J.Crew (old)
Rings: Kendra Scott, Kendra Scott (on sale)
Lip: Mac “Fashion Legacy” liquid lipcolour, Mac “Kiss Me Quick” lip pencil
When I bought the shorts, I also bought the matching top. I had planned to wear them together to create an afrocentric look complete with a head wrap in a clashing print. I found the combination a tad overwhelming on me, though, so I returned the top. The shorts were the keeper because they added the most value to my overall wardrobe. I have several outfits planned by pairing the shorts with tops I already own. Today’s post features the first of those outfits.
The denim trapeze top is a piece I snatched on mega sale before Kate Spade Saturday closed forever. I added an old beaded rope collar from J.Crew for its global flavor and my Loeffler Randall lock clutch in pebble dot because I love how its print teased the print on the shorts.
I wore this combination out and about last Saturday to enjoy the summery weather in St. Louis. It was over 70 degrees. Shorts weather, right?
Have you shopped the Marimekko for Target Collection?
Super cute! Love the shorts!

Thanks, Elise! I appreciate you stopping by!
I love the Target and Marimekko collaboration, that print is my favorite, too! Those shorts look fantastic on you!

It's such a fun collaboration indeed, Katie. Thanks so much for stopping by!
This print was my favorite from the collection too, and I also bought these shorts. Like you, I bought the matching top, but when worn loose, I thought it looked like I was wearing pajamas. Did you get that feeling?
Tucked in, the outfit worked a little better – looked more like a romper. I ended up returning the top because they were sold out in my size (and the size below and up weren't quite right), but I'm still kind of debating.
By the way, the shorts look great on you! I would not have thought to pair the shorts with denim, but like you, I definitely plan on adding a pop of yellow to play on the citrus print.

I totally agree, Cassandra. When I wore the top loose with the shorts, it looked just like pjs. i wasn't a fan. Tucking surely gave the illusion of a romper, which was cool. When I wear the shorts with other tops, I'm also going to tuck the tops for a more polished look too. By the way, I love the way you wore your shorts!
