Save the Date: Style Weekend St. Kitts

Save the date, y’all. Style Weekend St. Kitts is going down on November 6th to 8th, 2015. I’ve joined the movement as a Contributing Blogger, so you can expect exciting updates about the events. Not going to be in St. Kitts? No worries. I’ll have a full recap of the events too.

So what is Style Weekend St. Kitts? I recently talked with the creator, Winnielle Pereira, to get all the insider info for you. Style Weekend, similar to fashion weeks all across the world, will give designers from St. Kitts, the larger Caribbean region, and other countries an important platform to showcase their work. Winnielle is a huge advocate of fashion ingenuity in the Caribbean region. These events, through presentations of fashion, style, beauty, music, culture, and shopping, will unite diverse fashion creatives.

I’ve watched, in amazement, the advancement of Winnielle’s career in the fashion industry. She’s worked as a model in the Caribbean and United States, represented St. Kitts in the Mrs World Pageant, run her own model management company, and produced the most elite fashion events in St. Kitts. She’s a powerhouse, and I couldn’t let her go without asking a few more questions.

What has been your most surreal fashion experience to date?

Hosting my first ever Fashion Production in 2004, which I entitled ‘Show Me Your Soul.’ I remember The St Kitts Marriott Resort staff set 500 seats, and by the time the show started, we needed more seats because more people than anticipated attended. From start to finish, I could hear the audience pleased in their sounds and claps. It was indeed an amazing feeling to know that the hard work and dedication by myself and everyone involved was appreciated. Irie feeling.

Any insights for women aspiring to enter the fashion industry?

It’s very important to ensure that whatever you do you love. That will be the force and strength to get you through tough times. Always research and network with positive people. Build lasting relationships by respecting those you meet along your journey. And, remember that good things don’t come easy.

What are your thoughts on the fashion climate in St. Kitts and the region?

There’s so much talent in St. Kitts. There are emerging fashion creatives right here in SKN. I want to see them supported more. I want to see them owning boutiques carrying their locally made clothing, jewelry, and shoes. The business of fashion has the potential to raise the profile of the entire Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. Style Weekend St. Kitts is an important step in that direction.

What do you hope to achieve with Style Weekend St. Kitts?

My mission is to empower our creatives. I hope to provide them with an elite platform to showcase their work, gain exposure, and garner new clientele to strengthen their businesses. I hope to inspire emerging designers to keep pursuing their dreams. I also believe that Style Weekend St. Kitts, similar to the St. Kitts Music Festival, can empower and elevate our people and island. The goal is to host these events annually.
