Back in 2002, some time after I had started graduate school, my regular deodorant stopped working as an antiperspirant. And, let me tell you, sweaty underarms aren’t comfortable nor stylish.
After several failed attempts to find a new deodorant to address this sweaty situation, I visited a doctor. There, I learned I had a condition called axillary hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating of the underarms. The good news is I was given a prescription antiperspirant that has fixed the problem and in-turn changed my life. Seriously.
I was recently asked by Dove to review its new Skin Renew Invisible Solid and Clinical Protection Renew. These new products promise to provide the usual 24 hours protection against odor, wetness, and white marks on clothing, but what piqued my interest was the promise to reduce red/dark marks and even skin tone. You see, my prescription deodorant is really harsh and causes dark marks. Most of us can get red or dark marks from shaving and regular deodorants as well.
The Dove® Clear Tone products (now available on shelves) that I tried are described below:
- Skin Renew Invisible Solid – Light floral notes of violet, lilac and rose with vanilla musk
- Clinical Protection Renew – Offers prescription strength wetness protection with the maximum level of active ingredients (20%) available without a prescription.
What’s the Verdict?
Week 1: I used the Skin Renew Invisible Solid during the day, and continued to use my prescription antiperspirant at night. The Skin Renew Invisible Solid smells amazing and was quite soothing to my underarms. I actually noticed the underarm dark marks fading by the end of the week too.
Week 2: I used both Dove products exclusively. Surprisingly, the Clinical Protection Renew worked well as an antiperspirant as long as I used it every night. When I use a prescription antiperspirant, I only need to use it two to three times a week.
Final Thoughts: These products work well as a pair. If you are a normal sweater, you will likely love these products. If you, like me, suffer from excessive underarm sweating, these products can offer benefits when integrated into your treatment plan.
