My Allergy Story
I’ve spoken openly about my contact allergies in this space. Any direct contact with nickel and other metals can inflame my skin. This condition has affected me my entire life, so I’m aware of all the irritants, including perfumes, detergent, and wool, that I need to avoid.
Jewelry-wearing Limitations
I would love to adorn myself with all the beautiful, bold, fashion jewelry trends. You know, the long multiple chain necklaces, the metal bangles, the edgy earrings, and so on. To rock those trends, though, I would have to wear the “real gold” versions.
If you haven’t already noticed the soaring price of gold lately, you might want to hold on tightly to your precious pieces, because according to Freakonomics, criminal enterprises have taken note, and gold jewelry theft is on the rise. Read the full article, As Gold Prices Soar, Criminals Catch on.
New Earring Possibilities
I love wearing earrings. Gone are the days, however, of buying 2 inch 14KT gold hoops in TJ Maxx for $39.99. Since it doesn’t make much $ense to buy new gold earrings at the current prices, I’ve been searching for alternatives.
Earlier this year, I bought my first pair of Kendra Scott earrings. Why Kendra Scott? I prefer jewelry set in yellow gold and most of the Kendra Scott pieces are. The Kendra Scott earrings are also gold plated, so the metals used are coated in 14K gold. I spent $48 (after 20% off) on my Danielle earrings.
The verdict: I enjoy wearing the Danielle earrings in pink agate and more importantly, the gold plating serves as a critical barrier between me and the brass used to construct the earrings.

After the success of my first Kendra Scott purchase, I wanted more! I started shopping recently for another pair and the Gwen Chandelier earrings have captured my interest. They are $100 though! But, guess who also sells Kendra Scott jewelry? Bluefly! Check out the amazing deal I scored a few days ago.
Here are my earrings, which arrived 3 days after ordering them online. My anniversary look tomorrow will feature these earrings. They are my something blue and new.

Until the gold prices go down, I’ve found some fashion alternatives at discounted prices that are safe for me to wear.
BTW, the Amrita Singh Sunset earrings giveaway is still open.
I too have allergies to most non-gold materials. I'm so glad you posted these they're gorgeous! I may have to treat myself 🙂
@CK: Hey there fellow sensitive skin friend. I know you appreciate the struggle. Definitely check out Kendra Scott. Now that we know that Bluefly offers the line at discounted prices and sometimes super discounted prices, it is worthwhile checking in on that online retailer. Also, I received 20% off my first purchase at Kendra Scott's site. I am not sure if that offer is still available though.
Sadly I’m allergic to the KS earrings. All mine are just sitting in my drawer hoping for an affordable solution 🙁

Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear that, Sara. I guess you have a good excuse to only wear the real stuff.
