The Button-Up That’ll Take you From Desk to Date

If you’ve been loving the look of the off-the-shoulder button-up, this Pleione shirt is for you. No DIY needed. The shirt, available in two stripe options and a solid black, combines a traditional front button closure with a trendy off-the-shoulder neckline. And, the combination is magical.

I got the off-the-shoulder shirt in black/white stripes. And, let me tell you, this shirt is so versatile. I’m wearing it today with the top two buttons undone for a deeper drape that’s perfect for date night. When all the buttons are fastened, however, the top sits perfectly off the shoulders. It can even be worn higher on the shoulders to create the look of a boatneck top that’s appropriate for the office.

In today’s featured look, I’m wearing the shirt tucked into a full skirt. Since the top has a longer length, I plan to also wear it with leggings and other skinny pants. It’ll be perfect with my go-to black leggings, dark rinse jeans, and colorful skinnies.

How to Wear Vibrant Mustard Pants

I love all colors in the yellow family, especially mustard. It only made sense, then, that I tried on and later purchased these mustard chinos in Zara recently. While I rarely wear color on the bottom, I’m challenging myself to change that this year. Some style practices are good convention and others aren’t necessary. So, mustard pants, it is!

Pants: Zara (size 8)

Shoes: French Connection (available in black) c/o St. Louis Premium Outlets

Necklace: Kendra Scott (new for Fall 2016)

Rings: Kendra Scott (on sale), Kendra Scott (on sale)

Watch: Movado

If you read my round-up of affordable, colorful pants for fall, you’d recognize today’s featured pair. I bought them when I also purchased the green chinos shown in this post. While I like the relaxed fit of the green chinos more, I do love the vibrant color and more polished look of this mustard pair.

When I purchased the pants, I knew I wanted to create an outfit with the cool color combination of mustard, white, and grey. By the way, how fabulous does the Kendra Scott Jayce necklace in gray granite look in this combination? It seems like it will go with so much in my wardrobe.

A white blazer is such a seasonless style staple for me. See how I’ve worn one herehere, here, herehere, and here. The white blazer featured in those posts fell apart, though, so I’ve been hoping to replace it. I was thrilled, then, to find my new white blazer on mega sale at Ann Taylor right now. It has the perfect longer length. It’s a cotton-blend blazer which makes it ideal for all seasons, unlike the wool version. And, did I mention that it’s on sale and that sale is on sale?

Talking about bargain buys, my pumps were such a steal at the Saks Off 5th store at the St. Louis Premium Outlets. They were under $40! They were such a lucky find because I’ve wanted a pair of these studded French Connection pumps for a longtime, but they kept selling out. Finding them at that price and in grey was such good fortune.

April Favorites: Bold Prints and Bright Colors

There’s so much I love about spring and summer fashion, from the fresh colors to the vibrant prints. So, in April, I had fun exploring and renewing my post-winter style. I embraced brights. I experimented with new prints. I tried the trends (for less no doubt). Today’s post offers a round-up of my favorite outfits in April.

My Easter Sunday Dress

Happy Easter Weekend! I had so much fun writing an Easter style post—The Hunt is Over: Celeb-Inspired Easter Looks You’ll Love—for earlier this week. I simply turned to a few of my personal favorite style stars each with her own sophisticated feminine style.

My own Easter Sunday look seems to have been inspired by that post. The dot dress (now 50% off) I’m wearing is quite similar to a Kerry Washington ensemble I included in the Mode post. I hadn’t shopped J.Crew Factory in months, but I immediately planned a trip to the store after seeing the dress online. I tried it on, and the rest is history.

Here’s how I’m wearing it this weekend.

Dress: J.Crew Factory (50% off right now)

Pumps: J.Crew (option, want these)

Clutch: Kate Spade (similar)

Earrings: c/o Simply Chic

Bracelets: c/o Simply Chic

Watch: Movado (in silver)

Lip: Mac “Fashion Legacy” liquid lipcolour, Mac “Beet” lip pencil

This is certainly the type of dress you can throw on and instantly look amazing. By the way, I’m wearing it in a size 4. Many of the online reviewers rightly recommended sizing down. I usually size up to a 6 to fit my bottom-heavy frame in a silhouette like this one, but I didn’t have to.

To allow the dress to take center stage, I kept my jewelry simple but chic. My new handmade pieces by Simply Chic, a St. Louis-based jewelry line, were the perfect choices. How adorable are my hammered rectangle studs in rose gold? How in the world are these hand soldered earrings made with 14K rose gold filled wire only $30? If you’ve got stylish friends who have everything, I bet they would love a pair of these earrings.

Here’s a closer look at my mixed metal cuff bangles by Simply Chic as well. I’m wearing a rose gold, gold, and silver cuff. And, get this? They each retail for only $18! They’re priced to stack, y’all!

I deliberated about the shoes I’d wear. I was torn between the Sophia Webster floral pumps I’m wearing and my tangy yellow J.Crew jeweled suede pumps. I decided on the floral pumps to have some fun mixing prints. Wouldn’t the new striped Elsie bow-tie pumps be perfect for creating a mixed-print combination with the dress as well?

Have a wonderful Easter Weekend!

The Striped Boatneck Tee: A Must-have for Spring

I’m surely a tad obsessed with stripes. But really, this boatneck striped tee is a must-have for spring. It’s classic. It’s versatile. It’s the t-shirt you’ll reach for over and over again. You’ve already seen me wear this one with wide-leg pants and a striped fringe scarf (now on sale) in my Stripes on Stripes post. I’ll also be wearing it with colorful shorts, dark rinse jeans, red skinny pants, global print skirts, my red midi skirt. Lets just say, I’ll be wearing this t-shirt out.

What I’m wearing:

Tee: J.Crew
Skirt: Banana Republic (old, cool spring stylepinstripe option)

Shoes: J.Crew (old, optionlove these)

Clutch: Loeffler Randall (on sale)
Earrings: Kendra Scott (new for spring)
Pearls: Kate Spade (old, similar now under $30)

Watch—Movado (Skagen option)

Lip: Mac “Dangerously Red” lipstickMac “Brick” lip pencil

For a meeting recently, I paired the boatneck striped t-shirt with a midi skirt from Banana Republic. This particular skirt is sold out, but have you seen the new pinstripe midi or this hip belted style at Banana Republic?

Sizing? I’m wearing a small t-shirt for a relaxed fit.

To finish the look, I threw on my favorite cluster pearl necklace by Kate Spade. Looking for something similar? This braided pearl cluster necklace is gorgeous and 78% off right now. I’m also wearing my floral pumps (a new floral pump for spring) and dotted clutch (on mega sale) because stripes are practically neutrals and pair so well with other prints.
