A Sophisticated Way to Rock Gingham This Summer

Banana Republic sure knows how to do a gingham print right. Remember my gingham print dress? If you love that pattern but missed the chance to get the dress, today’s featured gingham pants are for you. This particular ankle-fit style is classic and sophisticated with a beautiful tailored fit.

I’m a huge fan of this gingham print because its bold, but its color palette makes it easy to style. The navy hues seriously go with everything. To demonstrate what I mean, I’m styling a mixed-print look anchored by the gingham pants in today’s post.

The Best St. Louis Coworking Space for Creatives

This post is in partnership with Spaces.

When I first stepped foot inside Spaces Central West End (find out more here), I knew  it was the place for me. Color is integral to the work I do here at Economy of Style. I also believe that color can affect the work we do. I gravitate, then, toward colorful open spaces that inspire and energize me. Spaces Central West End is that place.

Spaces is a flexible workplace that originated in Amsterdam. All locations adopt a European-inspired design that aims to foster creativity and community. This recently opened Spaces in St. Louis boasts that fabulous design and an ideal location in the heart of the Central West End.

I have an at-home office, but I can take my work anywhere and often do. I was drawn to Spaces because of the flexibility it offers people in similar situations. There’s an offer as low as $25 that gives access to the Spaces business club for an entire work day.

Spaces also offers offices that meet the unique needs of creatives. Whether you fly solo like me or have a team, there are offices of varying sizes to accommodate those different needs. There are offices with varying levels of privacy. During my week, I tried a few styles. Get a peek below.

If you’re in the St. Louis area and would like to try Spaces, I recommend that you do. The Central West End team is fabulous to work with and can answer all your questions. Be sure to ask about the free trial, so you can explore the amenities at Spaces like the on-site barista (coming soon to this one), available technology, mail services, meeting rooms, and more.

Special thank you to Spaces for offering me a week at no charge for review purposes.

How to Master Your Creative Casual Style

This post is sponsored by Zappos.

My husband and I both run creative businesses that overlap in their reliance on writing and photography. So, we often work together. This time of year, when the weather is lovely, we like to venture out of our at-home offices to be inspired by the city. You know, kinda like a work date. You can sometimes find us at a neighborhood coffee shop or at one of our favorite co-working spaces.

Given the nature of work, we both rock a creative casual style. Today, I’m sharing 3 tips for mastering that look.

Creative Casual Style

1. Choose button-down shirts that show your personality

My husband and I both love color and would opt to rock brights over neutrals any day. So, most of our button-downs are bright and cheerful.

2. Opt for casual slacks or jeans

No doubt, I love jeans! If  I have the option to wear a pair, I grab my favorite one and go. For work or on casual occasions that require a more polished look, my husband and I both opt for darker rinse jeans with a relaxed fit. Slacks are a great alternative to jeans as well.

3. Step out in sensible but chic shoes

Sensible shoes are a must for us. We spend a lot of time on our feet, bouncing from location to location for photoshoots, walking to lunch from our office, or picking up inventory to create content around. We’ve both been shopping for shoes at Zappos for years because we love the range of styles, fast (and FREE) shipping, the 365 day return policy, and the stellar customer service.

Since my last pair of Clarks instantly became my most comfortable shoes, I decided to get a second pair and have my hubby try a pair as well. Listen, we’re so glad we did!

Hubby chose the Clarks Atticus Lace in tan leather. These shoes have a classic profile and rubber outsole with an overall look that hits a sweet spot between casual and formal. He wears them with just about everything.

For me? I went with the Clarks Deloria Kay, a heeled sandal that gives your girl a little height. What I love about this shoe is that I never feel like I’m actually walking in heels because of the super comfortable footbed.

No surprise, I’m also a huge fan of the buckled strap closures. That detail adds so much pizazz to this sandal. By the way, I’m wearing the Clarks Deloria Kay in the color Mahogany Leather. It’s like a mauve-ish, blush color that serves as the perfect nude shoe for we brown gals.

You Can Never Go Wrong with Gingham

Yesterday, I attended a Lafayette 148 New York runway event at Saks here in St. Louis. What was especially cool about the event is I got to be styled in pieces from the brand’s latest collection. Listen, I took one look at those new selections, and I went for gingham. My only tough decision was gingham classics all-over or a just a little gingham? Ultimately, I decided on a fabulous pair of gingham pants paired with a timeless open-front blazer

Gingham is such a timeless print because graphic black and white prints go with everything. Additionally, there’s a gingham print to suit every style personality.

The Power Suit is the Smart and Glamorous Choice this Year

The power suit has been dominating runway trends for a few seasons. And, this year, the style is holding its own. Now, if you’ve spent most of your career trying to escape the stuffiness of a suit, there’s no need to worry. The 2018 power suit is bold and fun. And, more importantly, no matter your style, there is a trouser suit that’ll make you feel powerful and look glamorous.

Express Power Suit

What I’m Wearing:

Boyfriend blazer | High-waisted ankle pants | Camisole

Shoes (old) | Bag | Sunglasses ($9.99) | Lipstick

I wore this trouser suit on Valentine’s Day in lieu of a dress, and it was a sharp look. By the way, the suit is currently 40% off (shop the jacket on sale here and the pants here). I was initially drawn to the set because of its chic black and white stripes. When I tried it on, though, I discovered so many more features I loved.

Both the jacket and pants are made of a super lightweight fabric that feels soft and smooth. This suit is far from stuffy.

The pants have a flattering high waist and a silhouette that perfectly contours (without clinging) curves. Just so you know, I always size up in pants from at this store. For reference, I’m wearing the jacket in a small and the pants in a size 8.

I was hesitant about the ruched sleeves on the blazer because that feature eliminates the option of wearing the sleeves long. But, I usually wear my sleeves rolled up anyway because it’s such a hip styling. Besides, the overall relaxed vibe of this blazer was too fresh and fashion-forward to pass on it.

What I also love about this set is the versatility it brings to my overall wardrobe. I’m already imagining the many outfits I can create using the separates. Stay tuned for those looks. In the meantime, check out all the ways I rocked one blazer in this post.
