Lash Extensions: I tried Something New and Loved It!

I woke up like this! Seriously, when I woke up today, my eyes looked just like this. Why? I got lash extensions, y’all. I was invited by Trang, the esthetician and owner of Glow Studio St. Louis, to try Xtreme eyelash extensions. Since Trang is highly qualified and I’ve been curious about the procedure, I did it. And, I’m so glad I did.

lash extensions

I’m a huge fan of lazy-girl beauty routines. I shared one of my usual routines in this recent post. I do the bare minimum to look polished and photo-ready. So, the fact that lash extensions promise to eliminate the need for eye makeup really piqued my interest.

I met with Trang at her Central West End studio just under a week ago. We did a thorough consultation that explored everything from my sleep patterns to allergies to any past cosmetic procedures. As a licensed esthetician, Trang prioritizes this exhaustive consultation to ensure that eye and eyelash health aren’t compromised by the procedure.

After I was cleared for lash extensions, I got cozy on a massage table in preparation for the application. The actual process of applying lash extensions averages about 2.5 hours. After Trang cleaned and physically examined my eyes and lashes, though, she noted that my application process would require more time because as sparse as my lashes appear, there are a lot of them. And, just so you know, lash extensions are applied one single lash at a time. And, the medical grade glue that is used to apply them must completely dry between each application. It’s a thorough process that’s well worth the investment of time. Just check out my before and after.

I’ll be returning to Glow Studio in 2-3 weeks for a relash. Natural lashes mature and shed every 4-6 weeks, so retouches help maintain the dramatic full lash look.

Since applying my lash extensions, I haven’t worn any eye makeup. None. To be honest, if I never have to wear eyeliner and mascara again, I’d be cool with that.

If you’re in the St. Louis area, be sure to check out Trang at Glow Studio St. Louis. Need more inspiration before trying the procedure? Check out all the dramatic before and after shots on the Glow Studio Instagram page.

Disclosure: My lash extension procedure was provided free of charge for review purposes. All of the images, ideas, and opinions are my own.

Summer Bargains that are Perfect for Fall

Happy first day of August! We’re now at that part of the summer when it’s still mercilessly hot, but fall is so near that you can’t help but think about the next season. So, last Thursday, when I hosted a shopping party at the St. Louis Premium Outlets, my shopping strategy was to sift through all the summer bargains in search of items I could wear now and next season. This post shares a couple of those fabulous and affordable finds.

The St. Louis Premium Outlets is home to some of my favorite stores, including J.Crew Factory, Kate Spade Outlet, Saks Off 5th, and BCBG Factory. On any trip to the outlets, I prioritize stops at these few stores. What are your must-visit stores?

I’m especially happy that I stopped by the BCBG store because there’s a major sale offering an additional 50% off the already-reduced prices. I purchased today’s featured ‘Dallin’ pleated maxi skirt, which originally retailed for $248, for only $59! See the same skirt in another color still listed at full-price at the main BCBG store here.

This maxi skirt immediately caught my attention with its perfect-for-fall, jewel tone and floor-grazing hemline. When I tried it on, y’all, I couldn’t stop dancing because it’s so fluid and flowy. The skirt is quite versatile too. It’s the kind of skirt that could be worn during the day (like I did) and easily glammed up for an evening out.

I noticed a few new stores, including Express and The Limited, at the St. Louis Premium Outlets during my recent trip. I’d never seen factory stores for these retailers, so I decided to check them out. The silky camisole I’m wearing with the maxi skirt is from Express Factory. Get this? The camisole is reversible! It’s a beautiful grey hue on the other side. So, I got two tops in one for about $25.

I Hopped on The Fashion Lane Truck and Something Special Happened

I see fashion trucks around St. Louis all the time. Do you see them in your neighborhoods too? When I spotted The Fashion Lane, a local mobile boutique, in my neighborhood recently, I decided to hop on, and I’m so glad I did.

The Fashion Lane truck carries modern pieces for everyday wear. I quickly noticed that pieces were affordable, too, with right-on-trend blouses priced around $38.

Within seconds of hopping on The Fashion Lane truck, I knew I was in for a special treat.

I found so many items that were just my style and my price range, from a silky blue and white striped top to a sheer geometric print blouse to a mixed print cold shoulder top. My try-on pile was growing quickly.

I especially loved a mixed print cold shoulder top, so much so that I immediately started envisioning how I would wear it. Print on print on print, of course! The Fashion Lane mobile boutique had the perfect striped clutch to help me fulfill my print-mixing dreams too.

Shopping a mobile boutique is a special experience. It’s as convenient as online shopping with the added bonus that we get to try on the clothes before we buy them. I took advantage of this perk and carried a ton of stuff to the adorable fitting room on The Fashion Lane truck.

Once I found my perfect fit, I couldn’t help but check out more of the accessories. They do make the outfit after all, right?

After a fun shopping session on The Fashion Lane, I found the perfect look for an upcoming event.

Tis the summer of baring shoulders, and this cold shoulder top has my name all over it. Lace trim details, mixed prints, and shoulder cut-outs? This top had my attention at first sight.

I still don’t quite understand how this top is only $38. Want even greater savvy shopper news? The Fashion Lane truck is marking down its prices by as much as 40% at the upcoming Cash + Carry event, a two-day boutique sale going down on July 22 and 23.

Mother’s Day Shopping at Kendra Scott St. Louis

A few years ago, I gifted my mother a few pieces of Kendra Scott jewelry. My mom has a very sophisticated style and loves to wear black and white, so I thought that colorful pieces of jewelry would complement her style well. I was right, and she has since become quite the Kendra Scott fan. Her collection of pieces is fast approaching the size of my own.

The idea, then, of hosting a Mother’s Day shopping party at the Kendra Scott store in St. Louis made sense for me. Last Sunday, I did just that with a few other bloggers.

The local Kendra Scott team knows how to throw a party, y’all. Mimosas, brunch bites, and the most beautiful touches to celebrate mothers were all on deck.

My mom lives at home in St. Kitts, so it was quite special to have her make a virtual appearance in the event. Our moms were on display in the store along with our favorite selections for Mother’s Day gifts.

I’ve been a fan of Kendra Scott jewelry for almost a decade now. Who knew that my purchase of a pair of Danielle earrings in Pink Agate would result in Kendra Scott becoming one of my favorite jewelry lines? As you can imagine, I have since amassed a large collection of jewelry from the brand. I’ve had to become more discriminating when making purchases to ensure that any new pieces I buy add value to my collection. I tend to gravitate towards the most unique pieces in new collections, those items that don’t look like anything else from the brand. Here are a few standouts from the newly-launched summer collection.

This collection introduced a stunning new stone—crushed abalone shell. That stone looks especially amazing on the Lauren earrings and the Layden necklace (shown below).

About two years ago, Kendra Scott began infusing more fashion-forward and edgy pieces into the brand. I was thrilled about that new direction and the pieces it introduced, particularly the new metals. Have you seen the Marci Statement Necklace in Mixed Metals? That’s a statement-making necklace, y’all!

This necklace has a sister—the Monroe Bracelet in Mixed Metals. Both of these items are the kinds of pieces you can throw on and not need any other accessory.

The Sayers Statement Earrings are another fairly unique set from the latest collection. I’m not sure that these suit my style, but I regret not trying them on last Sunday and will be returning to the store to do just that.

Have you browsed Kendra Scott’s latest collection? What are you favorite pieces?
