Saint Louis Fashion Week: Belle Style Trunk Show

RelatedNavigating Saint Louis Fashion Week as a Blogger

The first stop of the Saint Louis Fashion Week VIP blogger weekend was a trunk show by Belle Style, a modern American jewelry line made in the USA by Heather Christine Korn.  Belle Style boasts an eclectic collection and guarantees to meet your jewelry needs “whatever your style.”

Our hostess, Belle Style Brand Manager and Creative Director, Heather, warmly welcomed us into her showroom.

I was immediately drawn to some vintage earrings in the Madmen vintage collection by Belle Style.  I loved these earrings so much that I purchased the Lily earrings featuring a beautiful floral lily design in peach, sage, royal blue, gold, and red cutouts.

Vintage earrings at Belle Style

The owner of Belle Style takes a socially conscious approach to making and selling jewelry.  She is mindful about where materials used in her pieces are sourced.  She is also committed to sustainability, using every piece of material in her studio, and offering free lifetime repairs.  I could listen to the stories behind each piece in the Belle Style showroom all day long.  The earrings below, for example, feature a 1950s Cherokee Indian arrowhead.  What a unique pair of earrings!

The Belle Style leather collection was a standout for me.  Think super soft, pigskin leather in fresh colors.  Check out a few of the bangles and earrings below.

Thanks so much for hosting us, Heather.  I can’t wait to sport my vintage earrings and come back to shop some more.

My Perfect Fit: A Dress From eShakti

It’s a perfect fit!  I had the opportunity recently to shop eShakti, an online women’s clothing store that allows custom changes (from the sleeves to the neckline to the length) in the style of any garment carried in the store.  Say what?  Yes, this service exists and custom changes are offered on any of the sizes, 0-36W, carried in the store, and at no extra cost.

I was excited to put eShakti’s service to the test after my first visit to the company site.  The retailer carries dresses, tops, skirts, and cardigans, but let me tell you, the dress selection is like a dress lover’s dream.  Prints, solids, snazzy silhouettes, and so much more.  After just one visit to the site, I found the perfect dress for Spring, an obi sash gingham wrap dress.

Normally, I would’ve passed on a dress like this one because of its below-knee length.
Who wants to buy a new dress and then pay for tailoring?  At eShakti, though, I get to
play designer and tailor right from my computer.

Since I’m only 5’4″, I prefer my dresses to fall just above my knee.  Fortunately, eShakti allows me to change the dress to suit my preferences and body.  In a series of steps (as seen below), I chose a standard size 4 (of course, you can choose a custom size by entering all your measurements), I entered my height, and then I entered my desired length.  Easy!

About 10 business days after submitting my custom order, I received a perfectly-fitting dress.  Actually, it’s the best-fitting dress in my entire wardrobe.  No doubt.  I was also impressed by the quality of the dress. The details are impeccable.  The material is soft and flowy.  The dress looks and feels luxe.

This dress fits like it was made for me.  In some regards, it was made for me 🙂

Have you shopped eShakti?  If you haven’t and the store offerings meet your fancy, eShakti is offering 20% off to my readers using the code: ECNMYFSTYL74 (valid until March 20th) The code can be combined with gift coupons and gift cards too.  Who doesn’t love compound savings, right?

Disclosure:  I received the eShakti  dress free of charge for review purposes.  No monetary compensation was received for writing this post.  As always, all the ideas and opinions expressed are my own.

Duro Olowu for jcp in St. Louis Stores

When I first saw images last month of the Duro Olowu collaboration with jcp, I immediately started counting down to the collection’s release on March 1.  Flattering silhouettes for various body types.  Bold colors.  African-inspired prints.  This collection is like a Spring 2013 style dream.

Let me tell you.  In person, the collection is even more stunning than the online lookbooks could ever indicate.  If I wasn’t on a budget, I would’ve probably taken one of everything—the clothing, the home goods, the jewelry.  I would’ve surely bought the suitcase to pack it all in of course (if my store had it).

Close-up look at my favorite accessories in the collection.
The tapestry retails for $30.  Necklaces above are $25 each.

I was most attracted to the canvas and cotton bags.  My favorite was the tablet E-reader case ($25).
It’ll work perfectly as clutch since its cross-body strap is detachable.

Since I knew I couldn’t buy everything (today), I tried to be selective about what I took to the fitting room.  Y’all know how that goes.  Once you try an item on and it’s perfect, it’s hard to walk away.  Here are the items I tried on.  Yes, this was as small as I could make my try-on pile.

I’m wearing both dresses in a size 6.  The green jacquard dress is quite luxe-looking in person.
There are some size inconsistencies though.  The green dress was too tight at the defined waist in a 6,
but the leaf print dress fit perfectly in a 6.
When I sized up to an 8 in the green dress, the waist was still tight.  So, I had to pass for now.

I tried on the pants for fun because they’re not my style.  I’m wearing the shorts in a size 8.
The ankle pants look like pjs on me.  They are too long on my short self.
I’m wearing a size small in the ankle pants.
The plaid sweater is quite luxe in person.  I’m wearing a size small above, but would surely size down
to an extra small.  The sleeves were long on me.

I have a hard time fitting non-stretch pencil skirts.  I’m wearing an 8 above and it was too snug.
I never got to try a 10 to see if the fit improved. $40
The elastic waist, A-line skirts ($30), on the other hand, are quite big.  I’m wearing an extra small and
there was a lot of room.

I’m pretty confident that I’ll be revisiting this collection again soon when I have more time to try on pieces.  For today, though, I purchased the leaf print dress, green blouse, and a vase.  I was disappointed, though, in the absence of items in the plaid print I was most drawn to (like this tee).  Darn it!  St. Louis stores never get everything in special collections.

If you’re a fan of prints and color, this collection is a must-see.  The price-point is quite reasonable too.  I recommend checking it out in person because I noted a few size inconsistencies, even among items with the same silhouette.

Blogger Event at Soft Surroundings in St. Louis

Yesterday, I attended a blogger event hosted by Danyelle of The Cubicle Chick at Soft Surroundings, a store committed to making you look and feel your best.  Soft Surroundings is a retailer of fine quality clothing, shoes, jewelry, beauty products, and home decor.  The flagship store we visited, located at The Boulevard in St. Louis, recently opened The Renewal Room, a spa that provides customized treatments from fabulous facials to full body massages.

Spa Services

After touring the store and spa, we all got to experience a Renewal Room spa service.  As someone with extremely sensitive skin, I was especially impressed by the customized services offered at the spa.  I left feeling confident that the estheticians there could make any necessary accommodation to make your spa experience comfortable and effective.  Seriously, I already booked a customized facial for next week.

Clothing & Accessories

Soft Surroundings strives to provide soft, comforting clothing.  I was pleasantly surprised to find that the clothing is also quite chic.  Here are some of my favorite sightings in-store.

I was especially drawn to the classic pieces in neutral hues all around the store.
