Rungolee Spring 2013 Runway Show

Last night, I attended the spring runway show of Rungolee, a St. Louis-based clothing line that epitomizes global chic. Launched in 2007 by designer Anjali Kamra, Rungolee is known for its detailed embroidery and bead work, delightful mix of modern and old, and its colorful infusion of global inspiration.

Rungolee designer, Anjali, a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, describes the Rungolee woman as a style maven who is drawn to unique pieces and can mix and match items whether they are from the bins of a flea market to a high-end boutique in Milan.

Anjali Kamra designs her own fabrics for Rungolee pieces.

The Rungolee story is rooted in family and cultural history.  Anjali’s aunt, Swaran, has 50 years experience in the fashion industry, once producing for some of the leading export houses. Aunt Swaran currently oversees Rungolee’s operations in Mumbai.  Anjali’s daughter, Veda, also styled the models for the runway show.

Since its inception, Rungolee has primarily reached its clients via trunk shows and private sales.  The newly launched e-commerce site, Rungolee.com, however, is expected to expand the line’s reach.

Here are a few of my favorite selections currently on the shop site:

It was a pleasure exploring the Rungolee spring collection and meeting the designer.  I look forward to what’s on the horizon for Rungolee.  The Fall collection, projected to be filled with graphic embroidery, black and white, golds, grey mirror details, corals, and yellows, is sure to draw interest.

Review: Blissoma Solutions Skincare Products

I have finally found my skincare routine and it’s filled with products by Blissoma, a St. Louis-based, natural skincare company on a mission to provide holistic care for all skin types.

In late March, I received a couple Blissoma facial products in my swag bag during Saint Louis Fashion Week.  As someone with hypersensitive skin (easily irritated, reactive, dry, and allergic), I set them aside to be regifted because I have to be cautious about products I use on my face.

Luckily, a week later, I peeked at the labels of my Blissoma swag and saw terms (like certified vegan, 100% natural, alcohol and fragrance free, toxin free, and so on) that prompted me to investigate the full ingredient lists.  I found pure, potent, nutritive ingredients listed and knew then that I’d be keeping and trying these products.

Blissoma Free-Rejuvenating Herbal Gel Cleanser and Makeup Remover,
Blissoma Refine – Clay Renewal Treatment
Blissoma Pure Sensitive Skin Soothing Complex

I started using a couple Blissoma products (Free-Rejuvenating Herbal Gel Cleanser and Makeup Remover and the Refine – Clay Renewal Treatment) on an irritated face to see just how good these products really work. The next morning, I awoke to a smooth and calm face. That clay mask is serious skin therapy. After a single use, my skin felt renewed. I was so impressed with these products that I ran out to purchase a moisturizer (Pure Sensitive Skin Soothing Complex) the next day. And, just like that, my new skincare routine was born.

Blissoma products have a unique look, texture, and subtle smell that seem to tell a story about their unique botanical base.  I may not be able to explain that story, but I do know that my facial skin has never responded so favorably to a product line.  Julie Longyear, Blissoma’s founder and creative chemist, used her formal training in chemistry and her over 10-year experience working with herbs and essential oils to formulate these products.  My skin is grateful!  My budget is thankful, too, because each product is under $30.

Dislosure: I received a couple Blissoma products free of charge for review purposes as a VIP blogger during Saint Louis Fashion Week.  No monetary compensation was received for writing this post.  As always, all the ideas and opinions expressed are my own.

The Orchid Boutique: Designer Swimwear at Discounted Prices

Swimsuit season is fast approaching and thanks to The Orchid Boutique—a designer swimwear, jewelry, and beach bag boutique based in Miami—I’ll be ready.

If you’re like me, always on the quest for designer items at great prices, then you, too, can get ready for swimsuit season at The Orchid Boutique.  The boutique’s clearance section comprises an extensive assortment of luxury swimsuits marked down by as much as 70% off!

I had the opportunity to try a swimsuit from The Orchid Boutique.  Choosing one swimsuit was a challenge because the boutique boasts a well curated collection of suits for fashion-forward and style-savvy women.

I decided on a Maaji one piece.  I favor somewhat conservative pieces with full coverage bottoms like this one.  This suit also flaunts a curve-friendly silhouette and overall sophisticated style.  And, guess what?  The Maaji swimsuit is reversible!  Gotta love that kind of versatility.

On the final day of Saint Louis Fashion Week, our VIP blogger crew made a stop at Saks Fifth Avenue for lunch in the Lindberg room.  We were greeted and hosted by Tania Beasley-Jolly, Marketing Director of Saks St. Louis.

Saks Fifth Avenue in St. Louis is a fashion force.  If you’re in the city, you probably already know that the premier celebration of Fashion’s Night Out is at Saks.  You did know that, right?  If you didn’t, be sure to find our local store and learn about upcoming store events.

I was thrilled to tour our local store after lunch.  The selection of International and American designers carried in Saks St. Louis is comparable to what you would find in fashion capitals.  Yes, the Midwest knows high fashion, and Saks St. Louis has all our high fashion needs covered.
