Economy of Style Featured in St. Louis’ Alive Magazine

You wouldn’t believe what happened.  Economy of Style is featured in the November 2013 issue of Alive Magazine, the premier lifestyle magazine in St. Louis.

I appear in “Blog Stars, an article written by Sarah Stallman, introducing all of the winners of the inaugural St. Louis Fashion Blog Awards (STLFBA).  Thanks so much again for voting me Best Budget Blog.  That win earned me a feature spot in the article.  I really appreciate your support!

I, along with five other featured bloggers, had the privilege of being photographed by Attilio D’Agostino for the story.  Attilio chose a street style theme for the shoot, so we hit the streets of downtown St. Louis in search of perfect locations for each of our images.  Here are a few photos I captured with my iPhone during the shoot.  Special thanks to fellow bloggers and 2013 best fashion blog award winners, Emily and Danica of Fox and Gypsy, for taking my picture during the shoot.

Highlights from Saint Louis Fashion Week, Fall 2013

Fall 2013 Saint Louis Fashion promised to be the biggest and best one yet.  And, the 10-day extended fashion week this fall surpassed that promise.  While many flock to the fashion capitals to get a fashion fix, Saint Louis Fashion Week showed the world that fashion ingenuity can emerge from the Midwest too.

For highlights on the entire Fall 2013 season of Saint Louis Fashion Week, I’ve included a roundup of all the major happenings during the 10-day fashion extravaganza.

Saint Louis Fashion Week, Fall 2013

What I Wore: Anthropologie Mitzie Channeled Tunic

I have a birthday this month, so the birthday rewards have been rolling in!  I received my Anthro card birthday discount at the end of September, and I was eager for October to begin so I could finally use it.  One of the items I purchased with the discount was the Mitzie Channeled Tunic by Meadow Rue.  The tunic’s mixed texture and Chanel-esque appeal made it a must-buy for me.

I wore my new tunic to Industry Night during Saint Louis Fashion Week.  See how (with a few minor tweaks like booties instead of pumps) below:

STLFW Bloggers Convene at Brown Shoe Company

Last Friday, the bloggers of Saint Louis Fashion Week were invited to the Brown Shoe Company headquarters for breakfast followed by a panel session to get acquainted with the company.  Brown Shoe Company, based in St. Louis for over a century, is the global footwear company behind many of the shoe brands we all know and love, including Vince and Sam Edelman.

Brown Shoe Company transformed a conference room into a breakfast and shoe haven complete with tasty treats and visually striking shoe displays.  The event was informative.  I was pleasantly surprised to learn of some of the family brands, healthy living brands, and contemporary fashion brands that fall under the Brown Shoe umbrella.  You may be pleasantly surprised too.

Here are a few photographs I snapped at breakfast and a family tree design I created showcasing just some of the Brown Shoe brands:

Carlos Santana bootie, Carlos Santana pump, Naturalizer slip-on

Ryka training shoes
Vince ankle boot, Vince d’Orsay pumps

Brown Shoe Company provided each blogger with a gift card to Famous Footwear, the nationwide chain of retail stores offering more than a hundred brands including Steve Madden, Fergalicious by Fergie, and Carlos by Santana.  Famous Footwear, of course, also falls under the Brown Shoe umbrella.  I hadn’t shopped in Famous in several years, so I was excited to see what was in store.

Shopping Famous Footwear

I visited Famous Footwear recently and was immediately drawn to the super chic and affordable booties in store.  One in particular, the Fergalicious by Fergie “Regal” bootie, stood out to me.  It has a sophisticated silhouette accented with faux suede and faux leather details.  The bootie is currently on sale in Famous Footwear for $49.99 (reg. $59.99).

Bargain Shopping Tips at Famous Footwear:

1.  Join Famous Footwear Rewards.  Membership is free.  Earn points on every purchase and receive a $5 certificate for every 100 points earned.

2.  Use coupons.  If you attended STLFW, there’s a Famous Footwear coupon for $10 off any $50 purchase in each of your gift bags.

Be sure to check out my recap of Project:Design!, the emerging designer contest presented by Brown Shoe Company during STLFW.

Disclosure:  I was invited as an STLFW blogger to the Brown Shoe Company.  Brown Shoe Company provided a gift bag and gift card.  As always, all of the images, opinions, and ideas are my own.

My STLFW Style for Fashion’s Day Out

Today’s post shares what I wore on Fashion’s Day Out last Saturday.  Fashion’s Day Out occurred on day nine of the ten day Saint Louis Fashion Week extravaganza.  I attended events at Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus that day.

I wore an all black ensemble made interesting by its mixed textures and shapes—an unstructured silky blouse with a high-low hem paired with a lace skirt with a scalloped hemline.  I introduced color into the look by wearing the Kate Spade ‘coated confetti’ collar necklace, a statement piece with multicolor stones.  My cobalt blue pumps and brushstroke clutch added pops of color as well.
