The Puff Sleeve Trend Just Keeps Getting Bigger

I’ve fully embraced the puff sleeve trend. It’s been easy because I’ve never met an exaggerated puff sleeve that I didn’t love. Tops can be boring, and statement sleeves add so much interest. So, I’ve been purchasing styles with no fear of growing tired of them. I’ve even dusted off a few old favorites from my wardrobe. Good news is, though, the trend is getting bigger and bigger, literally and figuratively.

I found today’s featured top in the Zara holiday sale (see the H&M version here). It was a must-have for me because it’s so extra, in all the best ways possible. I mean, it has dramatic puff sleeves, wide cuffs, and ruching. It’s also cropped, so I’ve been pairing it with high-waisted bottoms like these faux-leather flare leggings.

I wore the top and this entire outfit to a concert I attended last week. It was the perfect, ‘fashionable’ look for the occasion. And, equally important, I felt comfortable.

It’s Time To Get Holiday RED-y

Holiday season is here for real now! In today’s holiday look, I’m sharing a couple items that bring holiday red and holiday edge to the table. The items are also special to me. The dress is by a young, talented designer–Olivia Rae Designs–in St. Louis. You may remember her name from my Good Housekeeping article about St. Louis. Some of her items are available at a boutique gem right in my neighborhood. The jacket is a custom-made piece from The Jacket Maker, which traveled across the globe to get to me.

What I’m wearing:

Let’s talk about the dress. It’s a fiery red that’s simply perfect for any occasion you want to stand out at. Without a doubt then, it’s a go-to holiday red dress. It has a fitted bodice and a ruffle bottom. Olivia picked this dress out for me, and I’m glad she did. I usually avoid fitted silhouettes, but there’s something special about this one. It’s so flattering and hugs you in all the right places. For reference, I’m wearing a size 4.

Of course, it’s freezing in St. Louis again. So, no holiday look is complete without a jacket that packs as much punch as your holiday dress. This leather jacket is it! It’s by The Jacket Maker, a company that strives to simplify personalization in fashion. We all deserve the perfect fit, right? Well, The Jacket Maker gives you that every time.

My exact jacket is the Smolder Black Leather Biker Jacket. It had me at the color, the zipper closure, the zipper cuffs, the burnishing…seriously, I could go on. The winning detail, though, is that the jacket was customized just for my weight, height, and chest. When it arrived, it was perfect!

A Fun Way To Rework Your Favorite Jackets For Fall

I’ve been a huge fan of rocking your blazer with nothing under it (see here). No bra. No top. The blazer essentially becomes a top. I love the subtly sexy (or totally sexy) look it creates, so I decided to experiment with the styling on other favorite jackets. Here’s one attempt that really works.

What I’m wearing:

Jacket as top (option, option) | Flare faux-leather leggings | Studded mules

Earrings: V studs, ball studs, ear cuff | Anklet

My jacket is an old Max Studio style that I found in an outlet store. It’s a jacquard jacket with super-sized balloon sleeves and a single button closure. I’ve worn it as a kimono top before, by wrapping and then belting the front (see how here). Today, I’m simply wearing it as a puff sleeve top.

The jacket has a plunging v-neckline that is perfect for layering necklaces. I wear my 14K gold initial necklace and my 14k gold lariat bar necklace (similar style).

The bottom options with a jacket worn as a top are plentiful. I’m especially loving the kick flare trend, so I went that route. These flare faux leather leggings from Zara are favorites. I’m wearing them in a size large. This top would also look amazing with my Madewell mini flare jeans because they have a similar silhouette.

Fun Fashion Trends To Try Right Now

I’m making my official return to the scene tonight at a speaking engagement. I’ve been on an extended health break (read more here). To mark the occasion, I’ll be rocking some of my favorite fun fashion trends. Ruffles? Check! Brights? Check! Fresh accessories? Check!

What I’m wearing:

Top (Get 20% off)| Shorts | Sandals | Earrings: 14K Midi bar studs, 14K Ear cuff

Lip: Fenty Beauty “Ma’Damn”

My ruffled, crop top is from the brand Choosy. I was lured by an Instagram ad and fell in love with this top. I ordered a size small, which fits perfectly. It’s such a fun, statement piece. Tonight, I’m wearing it with my bright yellow shorts. But, I plan to wear it with high-waisted bottoms in white, denim, green, and more. I see lots of styling possibilities.

This combination would look amazing with flats, like slides or mules. Since I’m presenting at a fashion event, though, I don’t mind being a little extra. So, high-heeled, white sandals with translucent straps, it is! I featured this pair in my round-up of super sleek and chic pairs of white shoes. The barely-there sandal complements just about every look that requires a heeled sandal.

Another fun trend I’m experimenting with is the ear cuff. My 14K gold ear cuff is by AUrate. It retails for $180, and tomorrow, I’m giving one away on Instagram. I love this earring because it proves that jewelry doesn’t have to be big to make a huge statement. This design is edgy and adds so much flavor to your overall look. I’m wearing the ear cuff with 14K midi bar earrings to create a little ear art.

Where I Found This Glamorous Gown At 98% Off

I love high-end items. I also love a good deal. When those two loves converge, style miracles happen. I walked into Gordmans recently and found a huge stash of Halston Heritage gowns. These dresses were marked down from over $400 to under $10! $10 for a glamorous gown? Yass!

I don’t know how Gordmans merchandisers do it, but they negotiate their buys at such low prices. Gordmans is a regular Economy of Style sponsor (see some of my favorite collabs with them here, here, and here), and I shop there all the time because of amazing finds like the dress I’m sharing today.

I chose this Halston Heritage printed one-shoulder gown. It’s such a glamorous gown! It was marked down from $425 to $9.98 in Gordmans. I was convinced that the decimal point got transposed. When I checked out, though, the dress rang up even lower at only $7.99.

This dress caught my attention because of its asymmetric flounce drape, above-leg split, and the tie at the shoulder. The style gave me Grecian goddess vibes. This photo shows the dress worn as is.

I hoped my Gucci belt with its signature green and red stripe would add a nice touch to this dress. It did.

I experimented with some new beauty products when preparing for this shoot. My foundation is the newly-released Pat McGrath Skin Fetish: Sublime Perfection Foundation. I’m wearing Medium Deep 26, which is a perfect match. At $68, this foundation is a tad pricey. I love the finish of the product. I also love that I don’t feel like I’m wearing anything on my face.
