Looking Back, Looking Forward: Michael Kors Hamilton Tote

I’m quite fond of a classic tote bag.  When I leave home, I like to have all my essentials in tow and the right tote allows me to do that.  You’ve seen my favorite tote bags before in Fashionable Bags for Work.  Today’s Looking Back, Looking Forward spotlights my new bag, a Michael Kors Hamilton tote.

The Purchase Decision:  I’d been watching the Hamilton for almost two years.  MK bags often appear in off-price stores, so I was hoping and waiting for the Hamilton to show up in one.  Unfortunately, my favorite style, luggage with gold hardware, has been popular and kept selling out.  I decided to splurge then during the Macy’s VIP sale because 20% off was the best deal for now.

Off-Price Store Options:  Here’s a Hamilton tote that I’ve spotted in TJ Maxx and Marshalls.  I’ve seen a few similar colors, all with silver hardware.  I guess the croc style wasn’t as popular as others?

Why the Hamilton tote?
It’s beautiful!  The bag is spacious with inside pockets.  It has great structure for a tote bag.  It has my preferred gold hardware, but is safe for sensitive skin (many of the high end handbags have a brassy gold hardware that incites my contact allergies).

What’s in My Bag?
Here’s what’s in my Hamilton bag today.  There’s still lots of room left for more stuff too.  For a recent outfit with the Hamilton tote, see A Fresh Spin on Stripes.

I was concerned the bag wouldn’t fit my 13″ MacBook Pro,
but it does when you put the computer in vertically (sideways) and then turn it once inside.

Looking Back, Looking Forward

This has been the best winter ever!  There’ve hardly been extremely cold days and the spring weather looks like it’s here.  The temperature is going to be in the 60s all week in St. Louis!

My houndstooth clothing hasn’t gotten a lot of play because I usually associate houndstooth with winter and it hasn’t felt like winter.  But, who says houndstooth prints are only for the winter?

Today’s Looking Back, Looking Forward brings a spring update to my favorite houndstooth print dress, a retro Max and Cleo dress that I purchased in a BCBG Factory Store.

Looking Back, Looking Forward

While out shopping last weekend, I noticed that most stores had given boots the boot and replaced them with sandals.  Wedge sandals, colorblocked sandals, striped sandals, bright sandals…the most beautiful sandals for spring and summer were everywhere.

In today’s Looking Back, Looking Forward, we are going to look way forward…all the way to sandal-wearing weather.  Some of you are lucky enough to already be experiencing warm weather, aren’t you?

My favorite spring and summer sandals are wedge sandals.  They give me well-needed height, but feel more stable and comfortable than typical high heels.  Wedge sandals also come in some amazing styles.

I’m quite fond of raffia wedge sandals.  The raffia wedge sandal is back in 2012, too, but it has returned in bold colors, soft colors, print, shiny metallics, and all the trendy styles of 2012.  Here are a few wedges sandal styles that I’d love to slip my feet into.

L to R:  Luxury Rebel “Dani”, Via Spiga “Quip”, Isola Shoes “Olencia”

L to R:  Kenneth Cole Reaction “Real Deal”, Boutique 9 “Flower”, Michael Kors “Palm Beach”

Last year, I purchased these three pairs:

L to R:  Kelsi Dagger wedges, Kana wedges,  BCBG Max Azria wedges

What are your favorite spring and summer shoe styles?

Looking Back, Looking Forward

When shopping the Jason Wu for Target collection recently, I was interested in the jersey dress with the red and navy stripes, but ultimately passed on it.  Of course, y’all know I purchased the poplin dress in navy.

I passed on the stripe jersey dress because I’ve noticed that I get stuck in the pattern of purchasing dresses like that one, but not wearing them.  I immediately thought about a stripe BCBG Max Azria jersey dress that I purchased last August.  You see, that dress has been hibernating in my closet since.

So, for today’s Looking Back, Looking Forward, I thought it would be a cool “wear what ya got” challenge to pull out that dress and make it work right now.  Here’s the look:

Looking Back, Looking Forward

Today’s Looking Back, Looking Forward, takes a closer look at something old.  By old, I mean vintage.

I met the owner of Borough Vintage, a local vintage clothing boutique at the Coffee, Curls, and Cupcakes event last weekend.  I was immediately drawn to her vendor booth because I absolutely loved everything on display.

At the event, all of the the boutique’s items were specially marked.  So, I couldn’t resist this beautiful, braided, bucket bag.  It is vintage, real leather, and was just $18 that day!

Vintage.  Real leather.  Excellent condition.  Just $18!

You saw the bucket bag in the following look from yesterday’s post, Fashion Thesaurus: Orange Blazer.

I have plans to visit the local boutique soon.  I will definitely let y’all know how that goes.  You can also shop the boutique online at Borough Vintage.
