Throwback Thursday: How to Style a Vest for Fall

I’m so excited about Girls Night Out at Christopher & Banks in the South County Center next Thursday. I hope to see you there. I’m wearing one of my new favorite pieces for fall—a faux suede vest—to the event. I love vests, and I’m especially fond of that one because of its luxe texture and drapey silhouette. Today, then, I’ve decided to throw it back to one of my favorite looks styled around vest from last fall.

How to Solve a Sheer Blouse Situation with a Bralette

The push-up bra got pushed over this summer by the bralette. And, while I do love my Natori bras, which I discovered during a very thorough bra fitting years ago, nothing trumps the comfort of a bralette. No underwire, y’all! In addition to being comfortable, bralettes can help solve tricky styling situations.

Take this sheer blouse, for example. It’s a completely see-through, print top that I knew I would wear during the day. I didn’t, however, want to wear a camisole underneath because it seemed bulky. I also didn’t want to wear my strapless bra underneath because the hook closure at the back would be visible. A bralette though? It was the perfect solution. I’m wearing a black bandeau bra that’s $21 at Venus. The bandeau is available in a few other colors, including a chocolate that’ll be a perfect nude choice on me.

To complete the look, I added a few accessories that complement the colors in my sheer blouse, like my Kendra Scott Jayce necklace in gray granite. By the way, I’m so glad I could finally wear this blouse.

Greeting the Weekend with Shoulders in this Top

I’ve been talking about fall style all week long, from how to shop fall items in the end-of-summer sales to how to shop fall colors right now. It’s so hot in St. Louis, though, y’all, that I’ll be rocking straight up summer styles this weekend. White tube top? Check. Denim culottes? Check. Favorite sandals? Check!

I love a classic tube top because they’re easiest way to show off your shoulders. They were my go-tos for baring shoulders before the off-the-shoulder trend made a comeback. And, this one is super special with its crochet overlay. That detail made it a must-have for me.

For an easy weekend look, I’m wearing the crochet tube top with my super comfy denim culottes. My mixed gingham printed sandals and a tassel clutch complete the outfit with vibrant colors and striking prints.

5 Travel Essentials in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

When I travel, I travel with carry-on luggage only. I take my favorite, lightweight, carry-on spinner (this style in another color) and a leather duffel bag as my personal item. My usual duffel (seen here) that I’ve been traveling with for 10 years is in need of a repair. Furthermore, estimates for that repair exceed what I paid for the bag. So, I’ve been shopping for a replacement because a duffel is one of my travel essentials.

I initially bought the popular Madewell Transport weekender but decided it was too big to carry as my personal item. It’s such a beautiful bag though. Just as I was browsing and seriously considering some pricier alternatives, the Sole Society ‘Cassidy’ faux leather duffel appeared (through the magic of cookies) as a suggested item. I clicked through and noticed that the bag usually retails for an affordable $69.95, but is only $45.90 at Nordstrom Anniversary Sale pricing. It’s also available in a few colors, including a dark cognac, the exact color I want. I ordered it, it arrived, and I love it. I’ll definitely let you see how I pack it for an upcoming trip. In the meantime, check out all these cool travel essentials I had initially overlooked in the #NSale.

I didn’t Want This Dress Until This Happened

I’m not quite sure why I didn’t immediately gravitate towards the J.Crew sundress in the Ratti® Happy Cat Print. It has a festive print in colors that I love. On a recent trip to J.Crew, though, I passed by the dress (on a sale rack, no doubt) while wearing my J.Crew Collection Mixed Gingham Print sandals and noticed that they shared the same colors. I tried them on together, then, and mixed-print magic happened. That encounter inspired today’s look, an outfit I wore to a happy hour a week ago.

By the way, remember when this Coach bag was the must-have bag back around 2012? Mine still comes in handy whenever I need a pop of green. It’s such a classic style too.
