One of the things I enjoy about St. Louis summers are the outdoor festivals. Many of them are free and right in my neighborhood. I simply pack a basket, put on my festival style essentials, and head out the door. Are you getting into festival season in your area too? I got you. Ultra violet, lime punch, cherry tomato, spring 2018 colors are going to be bright. And, you already know, I’m here for all the brights. Holding its own, however, among spring’s favorite brights, is the classic combination of black and white. I’m equally excited about this trend too. There’s just something so sophisticated and simple about black and white. It’s an old-school pairing that always feels right. This year, I’m looking forward to getting creative with the color combination. And, the styling options seem endless. Here are a few I think you’d like as well.

Balloon sleeves, choker necklines, including a modern silhouette in your black and white look is an easy way to make it fresh. Standout structural pieces look especially sophisticated in black and white as well.
An all-over black and white print surely makes a statement. There’s something equally statement-making and also versatile about pairing a solid with a black and white print. Since I usually prefer to wear solid bottoms, I pushed myself to wear polkadots on the bottom in this look. The nudge was a move in the right direction.

So, Ultra Violet was named the color of the year by Pantone. I’m excited to see such a bright color dominating trends. But, this bold shade of purple can be tricky to wear. Visiting my mom is my favorite reason for going home to St. Kitts. 2018 is already off to a fantastic start, then, because I got to bring in the new year with her. Of course, as style enthusiasts, we seized the opportunity to do another mother daughter style photoshoot (see the last one here). From browsing old photo albums to talking about the future, I love spending time with my mom. She’s my number one fan, and everyone needs a dose of that kind of love and encouragement from time to time. Am I right?
I’m a huge fan of Lilly’s solid designs (see here and here). But, the Swirling Seadream print is one of my faves because of its happy colors and wavy pattern. The print is available in a variety of styles to suit many style sensibilities.
No surprise, I was drawn to the Myri romper. This short romper with its stunning off-the-shoulder silhouette had me at first sight. My mom, who also loves to show off her clavicle, opted for an off-the-shoulder top that she paired with white skinny pants (shop her pants here).
