High-Low Style Mixing Just In Time For Fall

In How To Create Fabulous High-Low Holiday Style, I shared my 4 rules for mastering perfect high-low style. I put a few of those into action to create today’s featured look. So, I thought I’d share and revisit a couple of the guidelines I follow.

What I’m Wearing:

Chain print dress (under $30) | Gucci belt | Pumps (option) | Earrings | Watch

Eyes: Urban Decay Born to Run palette c/o | Lip: Charlotte Tilbury Red Carpet Red lipstick c/o

High-Low Style

Know what looks luxe

In my earlier post, I talked about the importance of developing a discerning eye for factors that determine quality. Things like fit, fabric, and silhouette are crucial. I knew I encountered luxury when I spotted this chain print midi dress. It has the kind of print and the look of the silk jersey fabric of higher-end brands like DVF. But, get this. This dress is under $30.

The dress comes in two colors–the green and gold that I’m wearing and a black and cream combination. The long sleeves and midi length make it an ideal option for cool summer nights and early fall days. For reference, I’m wearing the dress in a size Medium.

Accessorize in high-end pieces

No doubt. Accessories can elevate an entire outfit. They’re also splurge worthy because you can get so much mileage out of them. When I realized how much wear I got out of my leather Gucci skinny belt (see it styled here, here, here, herehere, here, and here), I started shopping for another style. This time, I opted for the brand’s signature green and red stripe.

This new pre-fall 2018 style was a must-have for me because of its design–a floating gold emblem (in a new torchon design) on the web elastic. The previous version of this belt combined web elastic and leather.
