How to Wear a Wrap Dress as a Cardigan

A few months ago, I ordered a Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dress on eBay, but I didn’t quite like how it looked on me. Unfortunately, it was a final sale purchase, so I was stuck with it. Since I loved the fabulous red twirl print on the dress so much, I decided to make it work. Here’s how.

I’m wearing the wrap dress as a duster cardigan. To convert the dress into a cardigan, I simply pulled the ties inside and knotted them at the back. Of course, the ties can also be draped on the outside of the dress and tied at the back. I prefer concealing the ties, though, to allow the fabulous print to shine.

With a such a standout print, the rest of my outfit simply plays a supportive role. My white tank and medium rinse jeans (under $30) are holding it down while the duster stands out.

Of course, I had to play with prints just a little. I’m wearing my old J.Crew d’Orsay pumps, which featured one of my favorite J.Crew prints of all time. The print was created in a famous Italian mill, but it reminds of a good old Caribbean batik. The print on the pumps have a hint of that red orange in the dress, and the items connect on that note while clashing beautifully.

I gave a sneak peek of this look, from the planning stage to actually wearing it, on Instagram. Hold up, are you following me on Instagram? It goes down on Instagram Stories. You should totally follow me.

I’m also wearing my favorite red lip ever, Mac “Carmine Rouge” with the Mac “He Said She Said” lip pencil. This combination has been my go-to lip color lately.
