Forget the Rules: White Before Memorial Day

Some rules are meant to be broken, right? I’m not quite sure of the origin of the rules concerning when it’s okay to wear white, but I’m pretty sure that those rules no longer apply. No white before Memorial Day? Forget that. No white after Labor Day? Who’s going to stop us?

Today, I’m rebelling against old-school fashion codes by rocking an all-white ensemble over a week before Memorial Day. To create the look, I relied on some favorite pieces from my wardrobe, including the perfect pants I searched forever to find and the coziest white tunic (mine is sold out, but this J.Crew Factory style fits amazingly well).

To break up the whites, I mixed in some blue and grey pieces. I purchased the grey crossbody bucket bag for pennies when Kate Spade Saturday was going out of business. Target has a similar style—the Mossimo drawstring bucket bag—that’s luxe-looking and under $25.

And, the shoes! My sandals—the ‘Tradin Up’ Sandals in Denim—are by Diba, a shoe brand actually based here in St. Louis. What can I say? I love everything about these shoes, from the woven suede straps to the lace up vamp to the comfy stacked heel.

    Very cute! Love the shoes!

Speaking of which…I have no idea when the “rule” got changed to no white at all before Memorial Day, because when I was growing up, it was “no white SHOES before Memorial Day.”

(The other thing is, what about “winter white?” I never got into that look myself, but I guess it meant wearing all white clothes but with black/brown/gray winter boots?)

I love that, Owlet…even more evidence that these ‘rules’ are fluid. Winter whites have certainly been quite popular in recent seasons. More evidence that white can look good all year round.

I absolutely love this outfit! I couldn’t agree more, those traditional “rules” don’t apply anymore, I’ll wear what I want when I want lol!

    XOXO
