Vintage Style Inspired by My Favorite Diva

I was invited by boohoo, a fast-growing international etailer offering cutting edge designs at affordable prices, to participate in its Throwback Thursday campaign. For this exciting campaign, I was tasked with recreating the vintage style of a star of my choice using items from boohoo. Admittedly, I hesitated before accepting the challenge because I had unfavorable experiences working with two similar international etailers and chose not to blog about them. I’ve been so curious about boohoo, though, that I accepted and chose Diana Ross as my style inspiration.

From her big hair to her over-the-top costumes that often incorporated things like sequins and tulle, Ross is the ultimate style diva. How do I narrow down a look? Diana Ross is the queen of the catsuit, so I considered wearing the Amarie smart jumpsuit. Ross is also known for her dazzling dresses and boohoo’s dress selections are extensive. Ah…the choices. While scouting looks, though, I noticed that Ross wore red a lot. I narrowed my searches, then, to red ensembles worn by my favorite diva and found this magical mesh number. Yes! That is the look!

My strategy for channeling Diana Ross in my outfit was to maintain the silhouette, monochromatic theme, and the drama of the inspiration look. I needed mesh, and I found it in the boohoo Molly full mesh midi skirt. I also found a coordinating crop top with a roll neck that’s reminiscent of the choker Ross is wearing in the inspiration picture. See how it all came together.

Sizing? It is really important to pay attention to the size chart and any additional

information (like waist diameter) given on each item. This information helped me secure the

best fit.  I’m wearing the top in a US size 4 and the skirt in a US size 8.
