Casual Friday: J.Crew Bar-stripe Tee

Last month, when my J.Crew style guide arrived, I was immediately attracted to two items featured in this latest issue—the half-placket dress and the bar-stripe tee.  The half-placket dress didn’t quite work on me (see me try it on in In the Fitting Room: Dress Shopping).  The bar-stripe tee, though, was perfect.  It’s heather grey with navy stripes.  Perfect combination, right?

The tee is moderately priced for J.Crew at $39.50.  But, $39.50 for a t-shirt?  Not moderate enough for me. This week, though, J.Crew launched a couple sales on full-price items.  First up was 30% off knits and tees. This discount was just the encouragement I needed to snag one of the bar-stripe tees.

In today’s post, I’m wearing the tee untucked with a knit pencil skirt.  I was trying to create the silhouette of a shift dress.  Snakeskin wedges and a pair of Kendra Scott ‘Nyla’ earrings add pops of orange.  A beaded clutch with orange, blues, and yellow pulls the look together.

For size reference, I’m wearing the tee in an XS for a sleek fit.

By the way, all full-price knits, tees, and shorts are 30% off through August 11 at J.Crew.  If you’re in St. Louis, the J.Crew store in Plaza Frontenac is your best bet for finding sizes still available.  The bar-stripe tee has been popular!

I love that tee, but I agree $39.50 is steep. The good thing about J. Crew is that they run pretty good sales. I love how you paired the skirt and tee; I honestly thought it was a shift dress at first because they are so complementary.

This is my first trip to your blog and I love your style!! 🙂

So true, Casey, J.Crew does know how to run a good sale. It's often worthwhile to wait to purchase many items. That's so cool that you thought this looks like a shift dress! Yay! Thanks for stopping by!
