Summer Work Style: Print, Pink, and a Pencil Skirt

I found an amazing pencil skirt by BCBG Max Azria in the first Savers to open in St. Louis last year.  The skirt is a classic pencil skirt with hip polkadots.  And, Get this?  It was new with the tags and only $7.99!  Finds like this skirt quickly converted me into a regular thrift shopper.

I’ve styled the pencil skirt for work before in Thrifted Threads: Stripes and Dots for Work.  In today’s post, I’m remaking that Fall work look for summertime.  Mixing prints again, I paired the polka dot skirt with a geometric print button-front shirt.

The Kate Spade “brushstroke clutch” is surely a favorite Kate Spade purchase.
The clutch is the perfect accent to many outfits because the five colorful strips act as
crucial connectors to various color stories.

Love the outfit! You know something I've never been able to do comfortably is wear oxfords and dress shirts. I'm petite but still can't manage to get them stay tucked in or in other cases to avoid having a bumpy bum if the shirt tail is too long. For that reason I usually only buy knit blouses and sweaters as tops and wear a lot dresses. Any advice on getting it to stay tucked into your skirt without riding up??

It sounds like we're in the same boat, Tracyata! I also prefer knit blouses/sweaters and dresses.

In this look, I didn't have to do a lot of adjusting throughout the day. I think it's because the waist of the skirt fits well and the skirt had sufficient room around my hips to accommodate the shirt. Now, I've seen a few other bloggers post tips, including using fashion tape or safety pins to keep either the shirt or skirt in place. I haven't ever taken those measures though.
