Brrrr. It sure is getting cold outside. But, the color and print—a blue, green, teal, black, and cream mod design—on this trapeze dress add just enough warm cheer to a gloomy Monday. The dress is paired with black tights and patent cap-toe pumps. A knee-length wool coat provides additional warmth.

Don’t get me wrong. I did not start this day in solidarity with the Adbusters’ Buy Nothing Day campaign. In fact, I was a tad perturbed by the request to buy nothing on such a huge shopping day. On further exploration, I found that outside of the audacious request, the campaign seeks to remind us to really think about what we are buying‚ why we are buying it‚ and whether we really need it at all.
Hmmm…it appears that the folks at adbusters have been reading our savvy bargain shoppers’ handbook; we’ve been thinking–deeply–about the purchases we make all the time anyway. We may get excited by the hunt for affordable treasures, but we are not afraid to return empty-handed.
Today, I store-hopped, I tried stuff on, I bought nothing. And, this is the outcome of my shopping expeditions more often than not.
Black Friday. Well, despite the plummeting temperature here in the Lou, I’ve decided to brave the weather and the crowds and visit my favorite shopping spots. The look is cozy and comfortable. A green long-sleeve tee is worn with skinny jeans and pulled together by a standout wool coat. A blue pashmina and red patent flats finish the outfit.

It may just be me. But, I would prefer to do nothing more than stretch out on my couch and watch a Law and Order marathon in my Old Navy pajama bottoms and a long sleeve tee. But, as usual, the dinner party invites are in.
My look for today is chic and comfortable. A matte jersey dress with a black and ecru polka dot print and flowing bell sleeves is paired with argyle tights and black cap-toe pumps. A classic ivory trench coat pulls the outfit together.

Not just for rainy days anymore. A trench coat, the lightweight go-everywhere cover up, is a wardrobe must-have and a fashion classic. In addition to protecting against the elements, it is the perennial symbol of sophisticated style.
This updated trench is all about detail. Its standout buttons, oversized pockets, snug belt with buckle, and shorter above-knee length give the trench a joie de vivre but maintains its iconic appeal. The 60% markdown price is another detail I could not overlook.
