If you’re like me, you have a few fashion items in your closet that you love and have worn a lot. You’ve worn them so much, though, that these closet favorites just don’t feel fresh and exciting anymore. Before you get rid of them, consider these 4 easy ways to make those beloved items feel new again.
What I’m wearing:
Maxi dress (option) | Denim jacket (also love this) | Sandals (similar, similar)
Eyes: Urban Decay Born to Run palette c/o | Lip: Urban Decay “Aphrodisiac” gloss c/o
1. Push the envelope on styling
Wearing old items in new ways is an easy way to make them feel fresh. But, when you push the envelope on your styling, things can get even more interesting. You’ve seen me wear this white maxi dress here and here. It’s fairly sweet looking. To make it a tad more edgy, sexy even, I added my denim jacket and draped it off the shoulders.
2. Switch up accessories
Accessories are one my favorite tools for changing the mood of a look. From statement sunglasses to that IT bag or belt, the right accessories can be game-changing. In this look, I relied on a lovely layer of dainty necklaces because even minimal jewelry can have a big impact.
3. Experiment with color
Colorblocking has been crucial to reviving my interest in old closet favorites. Whether I try an unusual color pairing or block similar colors together, playing with color often gets me excited about old favorites. In this look, I turned to makeup for a pop of color. By the way, I’ve been having so much fun experimenting with bolder eye makeup (using the Born to Run eyeshadow palette) and nude lips.
4. Turn to alterations
Simple alterations can give new life to old basics. This particular maxi dress is so long on me that I’m considering making it a midi length dress instead. That’s a fairly inexpensive change that’ll make this oldie feel like a new dress.
Location: Red Robin, Brentwood, St. Louis
I strongly suggest you don’t alter it. It looks good, wears well and maxis are always comfortable and in style.
