I’ve enjoyed watching the growing influence African textiles have had on the fashion industry in the last 10 years. I especially love that African-inspired fashion has proven to be more than a trend of the moment. Of course, I’m a longtime fan because Ankara fabrics feature some of the most fabulous prints and colors. So, I was thrilled to connect with Ako, a Lagos-based fashion line that creates modern designs using African fabrics.
What I’m wearing:
Ako “Teni” top c/o | Shorts c/o (option, ) | Sandals (similar, option) |Earrings (option)
I’m wearing the Ako “Teni” top. It initially caught my eye because of its striking print and color combination. But, its details? They’re out-of-this-world fabulous.
The top features a comfortable, flattering, off-the-shoulder silhouette.
And, the sleeves? They are the most dramatic, statement sleeves.
When I wore my top around St. Louis last weekend, I was so extra with the hand movements. Sleeves like these need to be shown off, though, right?
Anyway, I wore my top with white shorts to create a fun, summer vibe. I also have plans to rock this top with skinnies, wide-leg pants, and pencil skirts. The styling possibilities are truly endless.
My top traveled a long-distance to get to me, but it arrived pretty quickly. If you’re interested in exploring Ako’s collection, see more here.
