Beyoncé Inspired: Stepping Out in Lemonade-Yellow Shorts

My favorite song to groove to on Beyoncé’s latest album Lemonade is undoubtedly “Hold Up” because of its glaring reggae vibe. Nothing gets this island gal moving like sweet reggae, y’all. The visuals in the “Hold Up” video were amazing too. That yellow Roberto Cavalli dress Beyoncé wore, in all of its off-the-shoulder, flowing-ruffles glory, was so striking and memorable. Today, I’m drawing inspiration from that video by creating an affordable version of that look anchored by the perfect lemonade-yellow shorts.

My entire look started with the dramatic flutter sleeve top, which is actually a swimsuit cover-up that can be worn as a dress or top. I initially planned to wear it as a dress in the city, but it was too sheer for that purpose. On my next vacation, though, it’ll be perfect. In the meantime, I took inspiration from Beyoncé and turned lemons into lemonade. I found a way to make it work right now and channel the Queen Bey’s style at the same time.

I found a perfect-for-summer pair of lemonade-yellow shorts, tucked in the blouse, and just like that my favorite outfit of the weekend came to life. By the way, these shorts are on sale right now for under $20! They’re true to size and have the same feel of my favorite white ankle pants. I’m wearing a size 6 because size 4 wasn’t available in my local store.

To further evoke the spirit and even mystery of Lemonade, I wore my Brooklyn Hat Company fedora so low on my face that my face is barely visible. The best thing about that is that I’m not wearing much makeup and you can’t even tell. Ha.

I kept my other accessories neutral to let the dramatic blouse and lemonade-yellow shorts shine. My sandals are an old pair by Tahari, but the neutral pair of Ann Taylor’s Leda Block Heel Sandals would be perfect. I actually ordered the bright red pair during a flash sale last night. I can’t wait to see them in person.

My tote is a little piece of Kate Spade Saturday history. I was sad to see the store close for good, but I cleaned up during the going out of business sale. A few other brands have summery, perforated totes though. This style is a favorite of mine.

My earrings are my wear-with-everything Kendra Scott Caroline earrings. I own several pairs of Kendra Scott earrings, but I’ve been wearing this pair more often than any other. The ivory pearl stones just go with everything.

Thanks so much, Wilfried! I’m a huge fan of the riviera pants from the Loft, so I was hopeful that the riviera shorts would fit well too. They do!
