In the Fitting Room: Dress Shopping

For the past few months, I’ve been cleaning out my closet, getting rid of items I probably won’t wear again. You know, items that never fit right, items that no longer fit, and so on.  Somehow, in this process, I’ve eliminated several dresses from my wardrobe.  So, I’ve been prioritizing dresses on recent shopping trips.

Having assessed my wardrobe needs, I’ve created a short checklist of requirements for any new dress:

    1.  Versatility (easy to style and restyle)

    2.  Fit-and-flare silhouette or defined waist

    3.  Solid color (open to prints, though, that are too fresh to pass on)

Today’s post shares a few dresses I’ve tried on in-store.

Left: Anthropologie ‘Empress’ dress (size S)
Right: Anthropologie ‘Petaluma Peep Hem’ dress (size S)

Left: Banana Republic ‘Milly Collection Sleeveless Jacquard’ dress (size 6)

Right: J.Crew ‘Half Placket’ dress (size 2)

Left: Macy’s ‘Bar III Geometric Print’ sheath (size 4)

Right: Anthropologie “Esme Spacedye” dress (size XS)

What did I buy?  So far, I’ve purchased the Anthropologie ‘Empress’ dress.  I really like the Banana Republic Milly Collection dress, but I’m planning to wait for another sale on sale offer.  Would you believe I missed the extra 50% off sale items offer at Banana Republic last weekend?  The Milly dress would’ve been around $35 (orig. $140) during that sale.

Thanks, Tara! The BR dress is surely a favorite. I was surprised that the color is more green than yellow in person. The color is still quite fresh though. I'm thinking about getting it today now that there's a 40% off offer on everything in the store.

The macy's geometric one is my fav. It's looks so african.

I thought the same thing, Tracyata! The print is very African-esque. That's what drew me to it.

All cute on you! I don't know how you chose. This post does prove that sizes vary considerably; what a range! Moral of the story: Try everything on!

Aww thanks, Tamie! Isn't it incredible how widely sizes can vary? I have to try everything on.

Thanks, Diane! I couldn't resist that one, even though I should be trying to avoid adding more prints to my wardrobe 🙂

Thanks, Rebekah! That BR one is a favorite of mine too. I plan to get it for sure.

Those shoes are DV by Dolce Vita. They are on Amazon. I got mine during a Gilt sale.
